Putting Virginia Families Before Big Tech Subsidies

As your candidate for Virginia’s 10th District, I believe in a simple principle: You shouldn't have to pay for someone else’s success.

Northern Virginia has become the global capital for data centers, but this boom has come with a hidden price tag that is being delivered straight to your mailbox in the form of higher electric bills. While trillion dollar tech companies enjoy massive tax freebies, the average Virginia family is being forced to subsidize the infrastructure these corporations require.

I am standing up to ensure that our grid serves the people of the 10th District first, not just the data centers next door.

Why the Status Quo is Unfair to You:

  • Subsidizing the Wealthiest Corporations: Currently, Big Tech companies benefit from a $1.6 billion annual sales tax exemption in Virginia. Essentially, you are being asked to pay more each month while the state gives away billions in potential revenue to some of the most profitable companies on earth.

  • The Monthly Bill Hike: In early 2026, rate increases were approved that add roughly $11 to $16 per month to the typical residential bill, partly to fund grid upgrades driven by data center demand. By 2040, these costs could cost the average customer up to $444 more a year.

  • Grid Reliability & Physical Risks: Our grid is being pushed to its limit. In 2024, a single voltage fluctuation caused 60 data centers to disconnect simultaneously, nearly causing a cascading blackout. We cannot risk our community’s energy security just to keep up with massive power demands.

  • The Hidden "Water Tax": Beyond electricity, these facilities consume hundreds of thousands of gallons of water daily for cooling, putting an immense strain on our local utilities and ecosystems.

My Commitment to the 10th District:

I will fight to ensure that data center companies pay their share for the new lines and power plants they require. We must stop the Freebie Fallacy and ensure that revenue from these centers actually goes toward our schools and lowering the energy burden on our families, not into corporate offsets.

Virginia can be the capital for data and innovation while remaining the best place in the country to raise a family. My mission is to ensure that Virginia leads the world in technology, without digging deeper into your pockets.

I served 28 years in the Army to protect our nation’s infrastructure and its people. In Congress, I will use that same discipline to ensure that Big Tech pays its fair share so that Virginia families can thrive.
