As your candidate for Virginia’s 10th District, I’ve spent my life in service. From my 28 years in the U.S. Army to my work as a small business owner right here in our community. I know the value of a hard-earned dollar.
That is why I am coming out today with a clear and firm stance: I am 100% opposed to House Bill 978.
HB 978 isn't just a "tweak" to our taxes. This is a massive, $1 billion expansion of the state sales tax that targets nearly every service Virginians rely on every day!
Why this bill is wrong for the 10th District:
It Punishes Everyday Families: Under HB 978, basic services like home repairs, gym memberships, and even pet care would suddenly become more expensive. At a time when inflation is already squeezing our wallets, the last thing Virginia families need is the government taking a bigger cut of our essential services.
The "Digital Tax" is a Tax on Innovation: This bill would slap a sales tax on software-as-a-service (SaaS), website hosting, and digital subscriptions. In a district that is a global hub for technology and data, this is a direct attack on our local economy and our competitive edge.
A Burden on Small Business Owners: As a small business owner myself, I know that every new tax and every new regulation is another hurdle to growth. This bill adds a layer of complexity and cost that will force many of our local shops to either raise prices or cut staff.
My mission is simple: improve the economy and education with a budget, NOT a tax hike. We don't grow the economy by digging deeper into the pockets of the people who make it run. We grow it by getting government out of the way and letting Virginia’s families and businesses thrive.
I’m not interested in more "creative" ways to tax you. I will use my background in Strategic Intelligence to find solutions that keep Virginia affordable and prosperous. I will continue to stand against HB 978 and any legislation that threatens our financial freedom.
